Need help getting started?  There are a number of opportunities to attend a FIRST Lego League (FLL) “Fast-Start” Training this year!  It is a great opportunity for rookie teams to get up to speed, but veteran teams are also welcome. Each Fast-Start is being graciously hosted by FIRST teams, so the particular agenda may vary, but the objective is to go home with a working robot and at least one program!

To make the most of this opportunity, it is recommended that you:

  • Build your robot ahead of time. Instructions for a basic robot come with the EV3 set.  Fast-start hosts may have a limited number of additional robots, but there is no guarantee.
  • Bring your team laptop, if you have one, with the software already loaded.  If you don’t yet have your software, you can download the Mindstorms EV3 Home Edition from  http://www.lego.com/en-us/mindstorms/downloads.  It is free so doesn’t contain all of the advanced features, but it is good for getting started and can be loaded for PC/Mac or IOS/Android. Fast-start hosts will have a limited number of computers onsite, but it is always best to have your own, if possible.

Attendance is free, but you must register by the Wednesday prior to the Saturday event.  If the registration number exceeds the capacity of a facility, registration for that event will be closed. Each team may bring up to 10 students max and must be accompanied by an adult. No students may be dropped off unaccompanied.  And note that several of the Fast-Starts are prior to the Challenge Release date, but there is much you can do to prepare without the details of the challenge - such as basic programming. Questions regarding the Fast Starts may be addressed to Louisiana FIRST LEGO League Partners Dr. Annette Oertling at annette@tulane.edu or Dr. Michelle Sanchez at sanchez@tulane.edu.
